WRITING IN ENGLISH AND FRENCH

 WRITING IN ENGLISH AND FRENCH

When asked in which language they prefer to write, most people steadily answered English.  But what are some of the facts and aspects beneath this response? Those are the issues we will attempt to address and clear up on this paper.

First and foremost, there is an important fact to be taken into account when talking about writing in English or in French which is the possibility of being surrounded by the language.  It is easier—at least in our local context to have more contact with English than in than with French.   English is on poster announcements, newspapers, television, and even more, it is more possible to run into a person who writes or speaks English than into one who does it in French.

Secondly, it seems that for many people who are learning both languages it is more comfortable and they feel more confident writing in English.  A group of students from the Universidad del Valle in Colombia who were questioned which language they preferred to write in, plenty of them would come up answering that they preferred English because writing in French was a matter of following a lot of rules, there were plenty of exceptions, verbs conjugations were too diverse and difficult, there were lots of concordances to keep in mind and many others aspects.

Thirdly, given the fact that French is not the language we are mostly in contact with, lots of people say that they feel more confident writing in English due to the wide vocabulary they get from advertisements, books, films, conversation clubs, etcetera.  This ultimately, makes people to express their ideas more accurately.

Summarizing, my point of view is that it is easier to write in English than in French not only because of the reasons already stated but I can add that even in schools and universities, the process of writing in French is developed in less strong way.

  1. Hello Jefferson!!

First of all I apologize for writting to you so late :S

But now let's get back to work. I was reading the title of your writting and firstly I thought about Spanish; why did you focus just on English and French?
Secondly, the task was primarily to make a personal comparission about what is writing in Spanish, English and French for you. That is to say to think about something that you relate to writing in those languages. Therefore what you did was not what we had to do (see the writings of our classmates)
Finally, Besides the actual task, I think you have a good point about what people prefer at the hour of writting in a different language and it is true that students prefer English instead of French. Just to add you just focused on what other people think about it, but there isn't your personal thought about it.

PD: check your grammar, there are some mistakes.

Have a nice day! And if you have any question about what I have said, feel free to ask me.
